Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This complete medical system has been used effectively for thousands of years. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine filiform needles into soft tissue in order to stimulate your body’s own healing processes. Traditionally, the effects of acupuncture are described in terms of adjusting the circulation of Qi (energy) and blood to attain a wide range of beneficial effects.
Electro Acupuncture
A more recent addition to the acupuncturist’s toolkit, electro acupuncture stimulates acupuncture points to treat injured muscles and tissues. Using a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) Unit, we can bring underutilized or injured muscles back to life so that we can continue to bring balance to the rest of your system.
Orthopedic Acupuncture
Orthopedic Acupuncture is a musculoskeletal approach to the treatment of pain. Orthopedic Acupuncture utilizes manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, and orthopedic examination to identify muscle imbalances and movement compensation patterns. This form of acupuncture focuses on determining the underlying patterns of disharmony in order to effectively treat both acute and chronic injuries.
Trigger Point/Dry Needling
Trigger Point, or Dry Needling, is a technique that targets hyperactive trigger points in order to relieve muscle tension. Trigger points, much like muscle knots, are areas where muscle tension is localized, leading to painful, sometimes chronic pain and discomfort. Studies have shown Dry Needling to be one of the most effective treatment modalities for treating myofascial (muscle & fascia) pain. When dry needling is applied to a dysfunctional muscle it can reset the contracted muscle, restoring joint function and reducing or eliminating pain!
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a pressing/scraping technique that is applied by using a smooth hand held tool to press and stroke the skin. This method is used to bring painful stagnation, “Sha,” that lies under tissue to the surface of the skin. This method can be used to relieve acute and chronic pain, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.
Cupping
Cupping is a technique that utilizes suction in order to increase blood flow to a targeted area. By using suction with glass or plastic cups, this technique can stretch and mobilize soft tissue to further improve circulation and eliminate pain. This is typically used in tandem with other treatments listed above.
